Tom Brady and Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat Green Bay Packers to qualify for Super Bowl

On Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Tom Brady (43) continued to write his legend. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a very average team he joined at the start of the season after 20 years at the New England Patriots and six Super Bowl wins, Brady won against the Packers (31-26) in the final of the National conference.

The “Bucs” have qualified for the Super Bowl and on February 7 they will be the first team to play the grand final at home, in their own stadium, the Raymond James Stadium. For Tom Brady, one statistic is maddening: he will play the 10th Super Bowl of his career. In 21 years of NFL, half of his seasons have ended in the final.

Tampa Bay has so far won the Super Bowl only once, in January 2003 against the Oakland Raiders (48-21) for their only appearance in the super final. The Buccaneers face either the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills on February 7. The two teams are currently playing in the American Conference final.

On Sunday, Tampa Bay managed to thwart the predictions, which instead saw the Green Bay Packers win at home, even if the distance duel between quarterbacks Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers (37), the likely future MVP of the season , promised to envelop this match at the top in suspense. And it was the case. Their opposition peaked during the first three quarters.

Green Bay reacts in the third quarter

Brady started very strong, finding Mike Evans for the first touchdown early in the game (7-0). But Rodgers replied, with a 50-yard pass that sent Marquez Valdes-Scantling into the in-goal (7-7). After a 20-yard run from Leonard Fournette who put the “Bucs” in front (14-7), Tom Brady made a first break, just before the break, delivering a superb pass to Scotty Miller (21-10). And early in the third quarter, he found Cameron Brate for his third touchdown pass.

At 28-10 on the scoreboard, few believed Green Bay could come back. But it was without counting on Aaron Rodgers, who first sent Robert Tonyan in the opposing in-goal (28-17), then his receiver Davante Adams to return to 28-23.

Defenses are the law

The last quarter was one of considerably increased pressure on the shoulders of the two quarterbacks. Brady conceded two of his three interceptions there, while Rodgers could not lead his team to a fourth touchdown.

He approached it from 26 yards, but instead of letting it launch on the fourth and final attempt, his team chose to add three points on a field goal, only closing the gap in the score. An incomprehensible tactical choice. Ten years after his only victory, Aaron Rodgers missed the opportunity to return to the Super Bowl. For Tom Brady, the dream continues.
