The ‘Suma’t’ program continues to be active in schools, with sports and habits workshops during the pandemic

As reported by the Consell this Friday in a press release, the activities, which include workshops and talks on sports and good habits, have reached more than 4,800 children from 170 primary and secondary education centers, through 308 workshops, in the first quarter school year 2020-2021, adapted to preventive measures.

The workshops, which are still open to new registrations through the app for the educational management of the Balearic Islands (Gestib) this course, are a complementary pedagogical tool to physical education classes, explained the insular institution.

As for the most demanded workshops, these have been ‘Tir amb fona’ (Shot with a sling), ‘Esquena sana’ (Healthy back), ‘Ballam?’ (Shall we dance? And ‘Primers auxilis’ (First aid). The students have also practiced sports with’ Navega a tota vela ‘(Sails at full sail) and’ Com t’entrenes? (How do you train?).

MINORITY SPORTS, PRACTICAL HABITS AND FIRST CLUB VISITS

Regarding ‘Suma’t’, the Consell has recalled that it is a program in which up to 12 modalities of little-practiced sports are made known, among which are hockey, sailing, volleyball or mixed football, through workshops based on the transmission of values. Also, he added, it includes practical sessions on healthy habits that help manage emotions and promote preventive practices associated with sport.

Likewise, this program contains a third line of activity, ‘Suma’t a l’esport amb l’elit’, which offers visits to the schools of top-level professional athletes.

In this area, the Sports area of ​​the Consell has collaborated with the clubs Palma Futsal, Palmer Alma Mediterránea Palma, Badminton Palma, Discaesports BSE, the Spain Hockey Club, the Sispal Handball Marratxí, the UD Collerense, the Ciudad Cide Volleyball, the Volleyball Manacor and the Palma Volleyball. In addition, this year two first division women’s basketball clubs have been incorporated, the Andratx Basketball Club and the CB San José Obrero.

This year, the Insular Sports Directorate has offered the new line of school visits ‘Creixem amb l’esport’, some talks with athletes from female or individual teams through the Waterpolo CN Ciudad Palma, Mallorca Club Hockey Hierba female and Shamrock clubs Women’s Rugby Club.

They are, he has emphasized, teams that are in the highest category of Mallorca in their modality and that contribute new values ​​associated with less practiced sports.

The Sports area of ​​the Consell and the Ministry of Education of the Balearic Government have maintained a collaboration to promote ‘Suma’t’, through which the sports workshops of the island institution have been placed as a complementary offer on the Gestib platform, at the one accessed by educational centers.

Also this year, the Department of Sports of the Consell has introduced some new features into the program, such as the proposal for online sessions, which allows full adaptation to the new normal.

Likewise, in the case of the face-to-face program, if feasible, and following the appropriate measures at all times, it is planned to expand the outings outside the center to take advantage of the natural environment, with the Mixed Football and Costing workshops, a modality that combines hiking rock climbing by the sea

It is expected that the 2020-21 school year, and depending on the current demand in the second school semester, 9,552 children and young people will be reached in Mallorca.
