The GEiEG will do 500 antigen tests on athletes and partners in one week

The pioneer program massive screening which the Generalitat promotes in a dozen Catalan clubs arrives at the GEiEG, where in a week is scheduled to do half a thousand pots of antigens to athletes, staff and club members. The initiative, which at the end of last year was also carried out at the CN Banyoles, is a good tool, according to the group president Francesc Cayuela, «per prove that the sport is safe and that any incident can be dealt with quickly ”. Screening began last Tuesday and will last until Wednesday next week. It is aimed at all those people linked to the club between 16 and 35 who want to take the test voluntarily (just contact them to make an appointment).

At the moment, the incidence detected in the GEiEG in the first days of screening is “very low” according to Cayuela, who points out that it does not reach 1%. With yesterday’s already almost 200 tests have been done, and there are still vacancies for the next few days. In this sense, the Group has made itself available to those clubs in Girona that want to take advantage of the program: “Get in touch with us and if there are free pots we will give them to them and they will also be able to do the analysis ». Les AVAP players, for example, have been some of those they have been able to benefit from it.

Destiny has wanted that precisely the week that massive pots are being made at the club the Honor Division B women’s rugby team has had to confine itself after the detection of a case in the template. The test took place on Monday, outside the program promoted by the Generalitat. Faced with this situation, the GEiEG has postponed the match that had to face Hortaleza this weekend. Among the different teams that are subject to the Catalan Government’s screening is the Women’s Basketball League 2. Joan Pau Torralba’s team will play tomorrow at the Lima-Horta court (18.00).

The pilot test will be carried out in a dozen sports organizations in Catalonia that have been chosen by the Catalan Government, and among which is also the CN Banyoles, who started the program before Christmas and planned to extend it for a month. In the group case, tests are being carried out from Tuesday to Wednesday next week, every day, except on weekends, between five and eight in the evening, at the Sant Narcís sports court. The program is part of the will of the Generalitat toquickly identify possible positive cases and cut off transmission chains, especially in an environment with less accessible concentration of young and healthy people. That is why it takes advantage of the community roots of the clubs, able in addition to uniting people of varied socio-economic profiles. Antigen test results are obtained in about ten minutes of waiting time after the test.
