Rooney has been working for Derby since January last year and was originally an acting assistant manager, became a temporary coach in November, and today has been permanently appointed by the management. The former Manchester United or Everton footballer is ending his active career because of this.
The club was led by Phillip Coca in front of him and his performance was not successful, the long-awaited fight to advance to the Premier League became a battle for survival and the Dutch coach was dismissed in mid-November. Under Rooney’s leadership, Derby won three of nine matches, scored a point in four cases and lost only twice.
“Being in the footsteps of coaches like Brian Clough, Jim Smith, Frank Lampard and Phillip Cocu is an honor. I knew very well that Derby County was the right place for me.” Rooney said.
