After an ultra-short winter break, Roda JC Kerkrade will resume the Kitchen Champion Division season on Monday evening without coach Jurgen Streppel against Young AZ.
Streppel is in quarantine after someone in his immediate environment tested positive for the corona virus. Assistant trainer Remond Strijbosch and goalkeeper coach Rein van Duijnhoven are also missing on Monday.
Roel Brouwers
Streppel, Strijbosch and van Duijnhoven normally sit as a trainer trio in the dug-out at Roda matches and so now others have to take over their tasks. Roel Brouwers will have final responsibility on the bench against Young AZ. The former defender of Roda and Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others, was the only remaining assistant coach.
Besides Brouwers, Lance Cobben and Toine van Mierlo are sitting on the couch. Cobben is normally a video analyst at the Koempelclub, Van Mierlo is employed as head scout.
Choices
The temporary staff can have an almost complete group of players against the Alkmaar promises. Only for left back Amir Absalem, who was operated in December, the game seems to come too early. Patrick Pflücke, Richard Jensen and Nicky Souren are expected to return to the match squad. Roda did see top scorer Roland Alberg move to Hyderabad in India during the winter break.
Not lost yet
Roda has never lost to Young AZ. Roda won two of the four mutual confrontations in the past, the points were shared twice. The only showdown in Wijdewormer, the AZ training complex where also played on Monday evening, ended in a 1-1 draw in 2018. In the rankings, Roda is tenth with 22 points, while AZ is in eighteenth place with 12 points.
