As skiers congregate at the bottom of the slopes, tennis fans find it safe to play singles.
The canton of Vaud made an exception for singles tennis games at the end of last year, but the Confederation’s measures no longer allow this.

In the canton of Vaud, tennis was banned during the first wave for nine weeks. In May 2020, classes were able to resume until November, when they had to close three weeks. Then the canton of Vaud applied an exception for singles tennis games until the end of the year, but federal measures forced the centers to close. “What we don’t understand is that we play an average of 20 meters from each other. A tennis court with the space around is about 600 m² with a ceiling height of 8 to 10 meters, this represents a gigantic volume of air. The changing rooms are closed, we have put hand sanitizer everywhere. ”

Jean-Luc Ecuyer, tennis teacher on the Vaudois Riviera, wrote to Alain Berset in an attempt to change his position: “Can you explain to me the difference in risk between playing tennis – more than 500 m2 and most? time about 20 meters of social distancing – and the practice of skiing, where people meet in the ski lifts, or the practice of horseback riding or the possibility of going to the hairdresser? “
He adds that last April, the Confederation allowed the early opening of garden centers. The president of the Confederation had justified this decision because “gardening was good for health”: “Don’t you think that the practice of a sport, where the risks are almost zero compared to the activities still authorized, is also good for the spirits? The State of Vaud made an exception for tennis last November, by authorizing only singles games while leaving the changing rooms closed, an intelligent compromise which you could draw inspiration from ”.
