Probleme mit dem Point Guard in BBL

KClassic point guard – that is the role description for Joe Rahon. The 27-year-old Californian is supposed to direct the game at the Bundesliga basketball club Fraport Skyliners. His coach Sebastian Gleim sees him as a “very team-oriented” player, “who has the passport in mind first”. But as far as his actual position in the team structure is concerned, Rahon is currently not playing the central role that one can expect from him.

In his eight appearances this season he was never in the starting line-up. Its average playing time is just over 18 minutes. In the last round there were 30, in 17 of his 18 games Rahon was one of the starting five. At that time he got 6.9 points per game and 6.4 assists. Today he has 3.3 points and 3.4 assists. The comparison shows that the playmaker still has room for improvement.

Rahon’s current lower standing also has to do with his new teammates. The competition in the American sphere of influence has grown stronger. Jon Axel Gudmundsson is firmly anchored in the starting line-up of the Skyliners. The Icelandic international and combo guard, who is the second best thrower in his team with 14.6 points, is more versatile than Rahon in his talent.

In front of Gudmundsson in the statistics stands the shooting guard Matt Mobley, whose 19.1 points per game make him the third best shooter in the league. The team Mobley / Gudmundsson stands out with a total of 33.7 points per game as the most successful guard duo in its division. The employment times of the two leading players are correspondingly high and well-deserved: Gudmundsson has almost 32 minutes per game, Mobley almost 31. Only captain Quantez Robertson (almost 33 minutes), who can also play the ball if necessary, is taken into account.

The Skyliners, who are currently in tenth place in the table, receive the 15th Bonn this Sunday (3 p.m.), have a problem when Mobley and Gudmundsson do not bring their full impact on the field. The fewer options the Frankfurters have on the offensive, the more they rely on the Americans and the Icelanders to achieve impressive numbers for success. The failure of Center Michael Kessens (bruised ribs) had a serious impact at 70:98 in Hamburg.
