Premier League: Death of Colin Bell, former Manchester City figure

One of the stands of the Etihad Stadium bears his name. This is to say what Colin Bell represented for Manchester City. The former England international died Tuesday at the age of 74, the Mancunian club said in a statement. Arrived at City in 1966, Bell remained there until his retirement as a player in 1979. With the Skyblues, he was crowned English champion in 1968, won the FA Cup in 1969 and the Cup. in 1970.

In 13 seasons with the Citizens, he had scored 152 goals in 492 games. Bell also had 48 caps for the England team with which he had participated in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where he was only a substitute.

Bell died of an illness unrelated to the coronavirus. It was in 2004 that the club’s supporters, by a vote, decided to give his name to a stand in their brand new stadium at the time.
