Petransels strengthens his lead, Praise withdraws from rally “Dakar” due to accident

Frenchman Stefan Petransel (“Mini”) on Tuesday celebrated victory in the car class in the ninth stage of the rally “Dakar”, but in the motorcycle class after the accident, two-time winner Australian Toby Price (KTM) was forced to withdraw from the race.

Petransel overtaked Qatari motorist Naser Al-Atiy (Toyota Gazoo) by 12 minutes, increasing the distance to 17 minutes and 50 seconds overall.

The third 579-kilometer-long ninth stage on the difficult sandy track was completed on Tuesday by South Africa rider Knowel de Villiers (“Toyota”), who was 12 minutes and 19 seconds behind the winner.

The third in the overall standings is the Spanish motorist Carlos Sains (“Mini”), who is one hour and two seconds behind his teammate.

Another favorite, Price, dropped out of the motorcycle class on Tuesday. He was hit hard in the accident and is currently in hospital.

It has already been reported that Monday’s stage was the last for another excellent French motorcyclist, Savior de Sultre. Before the accident, he was fourth in the overall standings, at one time also in charge of the competition.

The Price accident happened on the anniversary of the death of the Portuguese motorcyclist Paul Gonsalves. Gonsalvesh was killed in last year’s Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

Price passed in the second place in the ninth stage, only a minute and six seconds behind the leader of the Chilean driver Jose Ignacio Corneho Florimo from the “Monster Energy Honda” team.

At the time of the fall, when Price also injured his left arm and shoulder, he had taken the lead and would probably have won.

“Prais fell and seriously injured his arm. He had no idea where he was when I got to him. That’s why I waited until the doctors got to him, “said Rickie Breibek, an American rally winner and another overall winner of the 2020 rally.

Prais was taken to the same hospital in Tabuk, where he is also treated in Sultre.

Argentine’s Kevin Benavides won Honda on Tuesday, ahead of Breibek by a minute and eight seconds and Corneho Frolimo by a minute and 34 seconds.

Corneho Florimo is now 11 minutes and 24 seconds ahead of Benavides, while third is British Sam Sanderland of KTM, who is 14 minutes and 34 seconds behind the leader.

It is expected that the time spent at Sunderland will be reduced after the stop to be with Pruss immediately after his accident.

“I will fight for every minute, because you can see that all the races can be decided in seconds,” said Benavides after the stage.

The Dakar Rally is taking place for the 43rd time and is taking place in Saudi Arabia for the second time in a row. The rally ride prologue and 12 stages will end on January 15 in Jeddah.

Last year, the Spanish motorist Carlos Sains (Mini) won the car class in the Dakar Rally, but Rickie Breibek from the USA (Honda) won the motorcycles.

The rally ride took place 29 times in Africa between 1979 and 2007, but was canceled in 2008 for security reasons. However, it made its debut in South America the following year.

The endurance journey, which began in 1979 between Paris and the Senegalese capital Dakar, moved to Saudi Arabia for the first time in ten years last year in South America.
