The team has set several offensive records this season, but coach Pete Carroll has often been dissatisfied with the handling of the offense.
Seattle established a team mark for points in a season. Russell Wilson had a personal high with 40 touchdown passes, while DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett signed team marks for receivers.
But after the 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Wilson and Carroll let concerns leak out about a lack of offensive adjustments towards the end of the season.
The 47-year-old Schottenheimer spent three seasons with the Seahawks, having led the offense for the New York Jets and St. Louis Rams.
