Joe Ingles is no longer the Iron Man of the NBA

December 16, 2015. Joe Ingles had not missed an NBA meeting with the Jazz since that date. That is to say 384 matches played in a row without absence, and even 418 including the playoffs. He had seized the honorary title of Iron Man of the league almost two years ago. That streak picked up last night as the winger did not take part in the debates, against the Bucks, due to Achilles tendon pain.

He is therefore not going to seize his franchise record held by a certain John Stockton who, from 1997 to 2003, had participated in 442 games in a row.

His coach, Quin Snyder, nevertheless sees it as proof of his ” hardness. I know he would play if he could. There were a lot of times he played despite the pain and probably despite injuries that he didn’t tell us about. […] It makes you think about what such a series means and what it says about Joe, how tough he is, how committed, what kind of teammate he is. »

His absence last night did not prevent his men from putting out a great game to win in Milwaukee, with a three-point shooting record. Without the Australian, Donovan Mitchell still saw the difference.

Cory Joseph, the new strong man

« It was strange, qualifies the rear. He does a lot of things that I became aware of in his absence, not just in matches. I’m talking about the warm-up, the “handshakes”, his cries in the locker room 20 minutes before the game. There are those little things that we miss and on the pitch, his presence to carry the ball, his defense in the perimeter, his communication. »

So many elements that the Jazz should find soon because his injury is slight. An injury and an end of the series that the 33-year-old puts into perspective: ” I don’t see what the problem is frankly. I played because I wanted to and was healthy. If I am healthy, I play. If the professionals tell me the opposite, I stay on the sidelines. I was lucky that this series lasted. »

With 274 games in a row, Kings substitute point guard Cory Joseph is now the league’s new Iron Man. He still has a long way to go before he reaches the legendary AC Green with his 1,192 consecutive games …
