Jamaican top scorer Luton Shelton dies at 35

Sheffield United, his club during the 2007-2008 season, announced on Twitter. Luton Shelton scored 35 goals in 75 international matches with the ‘Reggae Boyz’ between 2004 and 2013. According to Jamaican media, since 2018 he had suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disorder of the nervous system that weakens muscles and affects physical abilities.

With Jamaica, he notably participated in three Gold Cups. He left his Jamaican club Harbor View to join Sweden and Helsingborg in 2005. He then played for Sheffield United, Valerenga, Aalborg, Karabukspor and Volga NN before coming full circle back to Harbor View.
