Ille-et-Vilaine. Mountain biker Ronan Chedaleux dies in the mountains, swept away by an avalanche

“He loved the mountain”, his father, Patrick, says in shock. But, for all, Ronan will remain “A guy from Renac”. At 21, the young mountain biker died on Sunday January 24, 2021, swept away by an avalanche, in the Rossanaz pass, in Aillon-le-Vieux (Savoie), in the middle of a ski touring outing. He died instantly. He was accompanied by his brother, Matéo, French junior mountain bike vice-champion in 2020.

Among the best Breton hopes

Ronan Chedaleux grew up in the country of Redon, before leaving it in 2018 to settle in the Alps. He had started the sport with judo, then discovered, at the age of fourteen, mountain biking through the paths and the surrounding undergrowth.

He took his first license at Redon OC, then went to the Pays de Vilaine mountain bike. Under the Branichapelloises colors, he had monopolized victories in cyclo-cross and mountain biking, his favorite discipline, in the cadet and junior categories. He had participated in world cup heats and was among the best Breton hopefuls among the juniors.

His abrupt death caused consternation in the mountain biking world. He was 21 years old.

His funeral will take place this Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 2:30 p.m., in the church of Renac.
