Persija Jakarta is the third most popular club in Asia through the voting held by AFC. The Kemayoran Tigers are under the Iranian duo, namely Tractor SC and Persepolis.
More than 168 thousand voters voted for Persija in the selection of the most popular club in Asia. Persija fell far short of Tractor SC in the first place which received more than 751 thousand votes.
Meanwhile, the second ranked team received more than 317 thousand votes which were occupied by Persepolis. Persepolis is the runner-up of the 2018 and 2020 Asian Champions League, but apparently lost in the voting contest to Tractor SC.
In total there are eight clubs that progress to the final round representing their respective regions. AFC selected these eight teams from four Asian regions.
West Asia is represented by Al Wehdat and Al Ittihad, Central Asia and South Asia are represented by Persepolis and Tractor SC, East Asia is represented by Shanghai Shenhua and Suwon Samsung Bluewings, and ASEAN is represented by Persia and Johor Darul Takzim.
‘The search for Asia’s Most Popular Football Club’ is held by AFC to find out which Asian clubs are the most popular. The determination is made by voting where everyone can vote for their favorite club on the AFC website. Apart from Persija, there are three other Indonesian clubs: Persib Bandung, Arema FC, and Persebaya Surabaya.
Iran and Indonesia are known to be active in interacting with AFC activities in cyberspace. No wonder that the most voters from this vote also came from Iran and Indonesia.
