FC Bayern celebrates a great victory in the EuroLeague

The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich surprisingly won the Euroleague against title favorite CSKA Moscow. Thanks to a strong final quarter, the Bundesliga team won the second in the table with 69:66 (40:39) and after 23 match days is on the playoff course with 14: 9 wins.

Thanks to a strong performance by Wade Baldwin, the guests went into the break with a one-point lead in a match that was balanced over long distances. The American scored 14 of his 22 points in the first two quarters and had a large share in the narrow half-time lead.

“That was an example of mental strength. It’s great that we have a 2-0 record – it’s difficult to beat these teams,” said Bayern top scorer Baldwin. “Wine is about quality,” said Trinchieri. But he was “super happy” with the win.

Even after the break, it was a close encounter until the 35th minute (50:49). After that, however, nothing worked at Bayern. By the end of the third round, the German top team didn’t score a single point. CSKA pulled away to 60:50. Time and again, Moscow came to simple points through Darrun Hilliard.

But the Munich team came back with the 2019 Euroleague winner. The Munich team turned the match around with a 13-2 run and were 63:62 with two and a half minutes to go. In the final phase, both clubs missed a preliminary decision due to individual mistakes.

After Dennis Seeley increased 7.1 seconds before the siren to 69:66 with a converted free throw, the surprise was perfect. For the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri it was the first Euroleague victory against ZSKA in the eighth attempt.

Alba Berlin is defeated again

Alba Berlin suffered the next defeat in the Euroleague. In front of empty stands in their own hall, the Berliners lost to the Spanish top team Real Madrid 63:72 (30:40). For the Bundesliga basketball team it was the 15th defeat in the 23rd game in the premier class. The best Berlin throwers were Luke Sikma with 16 points and Ben Lammers with eleven points.

In addition to long-term injured captain Niels Giffey, Alba also had to do without playmaker Peyton Siva. The 30-year-old suffered an ankle injury against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday and will be out for several weeks again.

Alba had big problems on the offensive against Real. Many simple lay-ups were given, and there was little for the hosts to get under the basket. Above all, there was hardly any passing by the 2.2 meter tall Walter Tavares. The guests collected so many rebounds and left before the break.

Alba did not give up and came back to six points immediately after the break (36:42). But the Spaniards always had an answer. In the last quarter, Berlin fought their way back to two points with an 11-0 run just under three minutes before the end (63:65). But then they failed to take the lead for the first time, and Real saved the lead across the finish line.
