Cuba debuts today in the Judo Masters Tournament ›Sports› Granma

Doha, capital of Qatar, will host the Judo Masters Tournament on Monday, the first event on the 2021 world circuit. The contest brings together the top 36 in the ranking in each of the 14 divisions, seven for each sex, and awards 1,800 points to the winner.

Cuba assists with its six judokas in the Olympic qualification zone: Idalys Ortiz (+78 kg, 1); Maylin del Toro (63 kg, 7); Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg, 8); Iván Silva (90 kg, 2); Andy Granda (+100 kg, 17) and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg, 32).

On the first day, the divisions of 48, 52 and 57 kg for women, and 60 and 66 kg for men, were put on the mat. The big surprise was the defeat by ippon of the number one of 66 kg, Manuel Lombardo (ITA) before the representative of Moldova Denis Vieru. On the other hand, Doha was the scene of the return to 48 kg of Daria Bilodid (UKR), one of the young promises of the discipline, after having competed in 52 kg during the Grand Slam in Budapest at the end of 2020.

After being bye in the first round, Maylín Antomarchi will face, in the second round, the winner between Prisca Awiti (MEX) and Maria Centracchio (ITA). For his part, Estrada will face the Italian Fabio Basile, champion in the 66 kg in Rio-2016.

The most notable absences at the Lusail Multipurpose Sports Arena will be those of Ryuju Nagayama (JPN, 60), Rustam Orujov (AZE, 73), Nikoloz Sherazadishvili (ESP, 90) and Lukas Krpalek (cze, +100), leaders in their respective divisions.
