Boris Becker – tennis legend about bankruptcy: “Very wealthy man”

Now Boris Becker is talking about money. The former tennis professional indicates in a podcast, among other things, that on the day of his bankruptcy he had a two-digit million fortune.

Boris Becker has been in public in recent months mainly because of the ongoing proceedings against him. Now the 53-year-old breaks his silence and speaks about the trials in his adopted home, London. In the latest and last episode of his podcast “Boris Becker – The fifth sentence”, he also gives presenter Johannes B. Kerner detailed information.

“I am in bankruptcy proceedings and I am in criminal proceedings,” confirms Becker. He has already repaid four times the amount owed and is in good spirits to end the bankruptcy proceedings soon. “I was declared bankrupt for 3.2 million euros plus three percent interest,” said Becker, “at that time I had a two-digit million fortune. It is important to mention that I was a very wealthy man on the day of my bankruptcy.”

He can keep half of his income

He has now made a deal in which he has to give up half of the income he earns today. However, he could keep the other half. Whether this is actually the case remains unclear. One thing is certain: the bankruptcy law in Great Britain differs enormously from that in Germany. According to his own statements, Becker has also tried “for years” to understand the principles. The criminal proceedings against him came about, according to Becker, because others recognized “mistakes in my insolvency proceedings” – but he assessed it differently. In his two previous hearings, he has been accused on 28 counts. Becker plead not guilty on 28 points.

By mid-February, he would now give the court a statement. He couldn’t say what he and his lawyers said in it. Becker was “in good spirits that I am not guilty 28 times.” Boris Becker’s next court hearing in the proceedings for bankruptcy veil is on September 13, 2021 in London.
