This year there will be no massive athletic races to close the year, although great records are expected both in Madrid and Barcelona. Two classics such as the San Silvestre Vallecana and the Cursa dels Nassos are held today without popular but with elite athletes.
In Madrid, giving four laps of an approved 2.5-kilometer circuit, closed to the public and without an end this year at the Vallecas stadium, 400 athletes are cited – 250 men and 150 women. Paul Chelimo, current Olympic runner-up of 5,000; Ruth Chepngetich, world gold in marathon; and Yalemzerf Yehualaw. The presence of great Spanish long distance runners will be wide, with Fernando Carro, Ouassim Oumaiz, Toni Abadía, Ayad Lamdassem and Azucena Díaz, Irene Pelayo, Marta Esteban, Marta Pérez … Abadía’s 10K (27:48) Spanish record could have the hours counted.
In Barcelona, a couple of hours before, it will be another Aragonese, in this case Carlos Mayo, who will attack the state record of 10K. It will not be the only record to be sought. The Frenchman Jimmy Gressier wants the 10K in Europe (13:18), while the Kenyan Hellen Obiri wants the World Cup of the same distance (29:42) and the Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba also in the World Cup, although in this case of 5K (14:48).
In Gipuzkoa, nothing
In Gipuzkoa, 2020 cannot be closed running, at least in an organized way. Neither Beasain, nor Donostia, nor Hondarribia, nor Errenteria … This year there will be no San Silvestre in which to participate.
