A goalless derby without a goal to open the new year

by archysport

Club Esportiu Banyoles and Unió Esportiva Figueres open the new year with a goalless draw (0-0) at the Municipal Miquel Coromina. The match had been postponed last December by several covid-19 positives in the Banyoles squad. In this way, the white-and-blues add their fourth point in the competition (the first at home), after the victory at the Grama field, and their first draw. Figueres, meanwhile, are in the fifth game in a row without losing and remain in the middle of the standings.

Both sets had options to take all three points. The first half was dominated by Figueres, who could have advanced with actions from Maureta and Marc Bech. In the second half, Banyoles made substitutions and had their chances at the feet of Sergi Ferrussola and Jordi Turon. Both Martí Bartrina and Andrés intervened with stops of merit.

Figueres came out focused and with the will to go for the three points. He dominated the game from the first half and enjoyed opportunities to open the can. A shot from Maureta inside the small area centered by Coto in the 13th minute, and a shot from Marc Bech that went close to the post in the 29th minute were some of the clearest options that Javi had Salamero. Ousman was also active but his actions were diverted. In the first 45 minutes, Banyoles only warned with a shot from Ferrussola when more than half an hour had passed, in the 34th minute.

At the restart, Pitu Batlle introduced changes and a variation of strategy in tactics and managed to equalize the forces in the next three quarters of an hour. Ferrussola were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 79 minutes, but Turon lofted a free kick over the crossbar. Shortly before, however, the visitors had stepped on the rival goal with an execution by Valverde that stopped Bartrina.

After the match, neither coach was satisfied. Pitu Batlle said that “in the second half we had chances to win, but we didn’t know how to finish them”. Javi Salamero, on the other hand, explained that “the assessment is not very positive because we did not get the 3 points. That’s why I think the tie is fair.
