World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper will be leaving the world rugby body “early 2021” to become NFL manager for Europe and the UK, World Rugby announced on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old Australian, a former Racing Club de France player, took up his post at World Rugby in the summer of 2012, succeeding Mike Miller.

“These nine years have been fantastic. It has been an absolute privilege to work with so many talented and dedicated people in rugby around the world, ”responded Gosper in a press release from the body, thanking Bernard Lapasset, former president of World Rugby, and Bill Beaumont, current boss of the instance.

Alan Gilpin, director of operations, will assume the role of interim general manager from January until the arrival of a new general manager, World Rugby said.
