Viktor Troicki’s first words as Serbian coach

The new Serbian Davis Cup captain, Viktor Troicki, gave an interview to Novosti.rs, where he talked about how his tenure was orchestrated and got wet when it came to talking about short and long-term goals.

-Your election as the new Serbian Davis Cup captain:

“Before they made my position official, I already had a meeting with the players and they proposed to me the idea of accepting the position. It gave me time to think about it and analyze the pros and cons of that position and also talk to Zimonjic. I finally accepted. In our country it has been a tradition for tennis players to be the ones to say which captain they want to have. For me it is an honor to be able to represent them and I hope to achieve many successes with all of them. “

-He never thought he would be a coach:

“To be honest I never thought of accepting such a position. My main goal is to maintain a positive atmosphere within the team and try to convince my players that we can aspire to all the competitions we play. My predecessor, Nenad Zimonjic, too he accepted the position of coach while he was also a player. It is true that I do not have any experience as a coach, but I have learned a lot during all these years participating in the Davis Cup. As a tennis player, I have gone through everything and I will try to use it to be able to transmit it to the next young generations that will come to represent our country. “

-What does Viktor Troicki aspire to?

“As the new Serbian coach, my goal is none other than to win the Davis Cup again. I don’t know if I will be in the ATP Cup, since it is our best player who decides who will be the captain. If Nole chooses me, it will be My first goal. In addition, the Tokyo Olympics is also an obligation for me as a coach. It would be an honor for me to be there and we have options to achieve it, since Nole is one of the few things he has left to achieve in tennis. “

-It has a great cast of tennis players capable of fighting for everything:

“I do not know if we will win the Davis Cup, but what I do know is that we are going to fight it. It is an honor to have a player of the stature of Novak Djokovic. We all know what it means for Serbian tennis, and that is that having one of the best players in history is a plus for us. Nor can we forget that we have tennis players of the stature of Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic, Miomir Kecmanovic or Laslo Djere, guys who are in the top 50 “.

-Playing tournaments like the Davis Cup is special for any tennis player:

“When I was a tennis player I really wanted to represent Serbia in these types of tournaments. Tennis is an individual sport and every time we were together in a Davis tie it was very special. I played the best I could in every match I played, and that team spirit and the atmosphere that is experienced in each game is incredible. I hope that the players I select will also come with this attitude.

– Generational rebellion in Serbian tennis?

“There has been a lot of talk in recent days that Novak Djokovic has had a lot to do with my selection and it is not like that at all. He was as surprised as I was. I plan to call up young players for some playoffs. There are many younger players who Djokovic and I. Novak should help all these guys. He is our great pillar and I think we need him to be able to give way to the younger ones and feel better in this type of tournaments. “
