Van Gerwen saves fireworks for World Cup quarter finals: ‘Tonight to bed on time’

Michael van Gerwen is heading for a quiet New Year’s Eve. The three-time world champion is preparing for his match in the quarter-finals of the World Cup darts against the Englishman Dave Chisnall, the number eight in the world.

No public is welcome in Alexandra Palace, Van Gerwen’s family follows the World Cup from the Netherlands and the restaurants and cafes in London are also closed due to the corona virus.

That gives Van Gerwen enough time to study his next opponent extensively. But anyone who thinks that the Brabander is watching World Cup matches in his hotel room all day will be disappointed.

“Does it say ‘crazy’ on my forehead? No, of course not. I have my Playstation with me, I have Netflix. I just trained. And otherwise there is not much to do. It has been getting through the days”, says the number one in the world from his hotel room in London.
