The rival Premier League coach claims Mikel Arteta has been instructed not to play Mesut Ozil at Arsenal

West Ham manager Kevin Nolan says he doesn’t think it was Mikel Arteta’s decision to expel Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this season.

Ozil was not included in Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad this season and has garnered attention for his vocal support for the team on social media.

Hammer’s first-team coach, Nolan, doesn’t think Arteta would have chosen to exclude a player from Ozil’s talent by election.

He said, “I don’t have the problem between Ozil and Arteta. I think it’s higher and he is told he can’t use it.”

“I’m not a coach and manager now. When you have someone of his quality and he tweets, that’s how it comes out and can be perceived.”

“If you win games and he tweets, no one is really interested. All of a sudden, Ozil’s tweets hit the streets – even I hear about them and I’m not on social media.

“When he’s got rid of all those players sitting in the background and found his own individuals, you’ll see a real Arteta team for me.”

Nolan has urged the Gunners to stay with Arteta despite their poor recent form.

The former England international believes the Gunners boss needed to change the club’s culture and be given the opportunity to include his own players in future transfer markets.

He said, “I don’t think they should change managers or go for it.

“The problem I think when I look outside is that there is a concern that he is asking the players to do something they can’t.

“They can do it for a certain number of games, but they can’t do it consistently to be a top team.”

“I think, given the possibility of some transfer windows to improve the quality of the players, he will reach this stage.

“It’s about being patient as a board member and being there in these difficult times.

“I think that’s what Arsenal achieved due to a lack of recruiting and planning.”

He continued: “It seems like he went in there, he cleared the back, like going to Arsenal now it’s a very different feeling than it is under Unai Emery.

“It looks like the whole place is gaining momentum again. Arsenal feel good now.”
