Maradona left two weeks ago, with an unexpected death that caught everyone by surprise. Even so, the news about “Diego” continues to arrive, as the circumstances of his death continue to be investigated and the battle for his inheritance has already begun. Any detail from the footballer is consumed by the fans, orphans of the “10” and still hurt by his departure.

His untimely death did not allow Diego Armando to leave all the ends tied, but there was one that made it clear to his family and friends. The “Ten” had a phrase in his head that he wanted to accompany him forever. An epitaph that already rests on his grave in the Bella Vista cemetery from Buenos Aires, where he was buried in the strictest privacy.

According to the Argentine newspaper «Olé», which cites the 82 World Cup teammates as a source, Maradona would have asked that the phrase appear on his tombstone “Thanks to the ball”, in gratitude for all that football meant in his life. In addition, his relatives would have placed another phrase next to that – “we miss you” – with which the epitaph of the Argentine soccer player is completed.

Maradona’s wish, expressed in that iconic phrase, coincides with that of another Argentine genius, who died a few years ago. Alfredo di Stéfano and his «thank you, old lady». Two sentences and the same recognition. His love for football and everything he gave them.
