After more than 9 months of waiting, the AS city of Dakar is eager to resume the path of the prosecution and engage the national championship which begins on January 2. But also in defense of her title of defending National 1 women’s champion.
In the direction of the competition, Yatma Diaw, president of the club, displayed this ambition after a preparation started several months ago. “We are the reigning champion team. Which means that we will be eagerly awaited by the other clubs. Regarding management, we were able to maintain most of the group. Which is a good thing. Then, we were able to strengthen the workforce. After the training sessions that started in September with a winter preparation, we are now fully ready and looking forward to entering the new season. The wait has been very long, ”he said.

For the president of the club of the municipality, the objective for the women’s team will therefore be to confirm the good momentum started for two seasons. “As a team that won the championship and the Senegal Cup, it is a question of confirming. We are working to stay on top of Senegalese basketball. For the men, we have a young team and we will have to keep working, ”he says.

“WELL REPRESENT SENEGAL AT AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS”

Alongside its national goals, As City of Dakar will sharpen its weapons for its first steps in the next African club championships, the date and place of which have not yet been determined.

Representative of Senegal, ASVD affirms its ambition to represent Senegalese basketball in African competition. “We have sent Fiba our confirmation to participate in the African club championships which are to be played between January and March. With our team, Senegal will reconnect with African competition. I think it will be something essential for our basketball. We have made all arrangements to be able to represent Senegal well at the African Championships and be ready on D-Day, ”he says.

In this context of a pandemic, the municipal team will be in phase with the measures decreed by the authorities to hold the meetings behind closed doors. “The federation has decided to organize a meeting to see how the matches are organized. We are going towards closed-door matches. We couldn’t stay without playing. Competitors cannot go a year without playing. But it will take measures to preserve the health and physical integrity of practitioners. But also that the competitions are not vectors for the spread of the disease. We, as a club, we are going to respect them and that we can play serenely the season which will be rather special ”, supports the president of the club of the municipality.
