Cristiano Ronaldo received the honorary player of the century award this Sunday in Dubai as part of the Globe Soccer Awards.
Created in 2010 by the London investment company Silva International Investments, with the support of the Emirate of Dubai, the Globe Soccer Awards announced with great fanfare a few weeks ago the organization of an early election of the player of the century for the period 2001-2020. Kylian Mbappé, in particular, was among the nominees, but the noose had tightened on four players these days: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah and Ronaldinho. The first ultimately eclipsed the other three.
This Sunday between the walls of the Armani Hotel nestled in the Burj Khalifa, the famous Dubai skyscraper, the Portuguese phenomenon received his award alongside the very boss of Fifa Gianni Infantino. Manchester City strategist Pep Guardiola, also spent on the benches of FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, has inherited the title of coach of the century ahead of Zinedine Zidane, José Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson. Real Madrid, played for the occasion by Emilio Butragueno, topping the club laurels of the century.
The double for Lewandowski
As for the annual distinctions, Robert Lewandowski, the Polish goalscorer for Bayern, was named player of the year 2020, ten days after receiving such an award at the Fifa The Best Trophies ceremony. His coach Hans-Dieter Flick, forgotten by Fifa, on the other hand, won the technician of the year award for the nose and beards of Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Gian Piero Gasperini (Atalanta Bergamo).
