Retired due to head injury, this player criticizes the Luiz-Jimenez incident

London

Ryan Mason had to retire because of a skull injury. Mason then criticized the handling of David Luiz and Raul Jimenez’s head injury.

The Arsenal vs Wolverhampton match at the Emirates Stadium on Monday (11/30/2020) in the morning WIB had only been running for 5 minutes when the horror air duel between Luiz and Jimenez occurred. Jimenez received a collision that made him unable to continue the game.

Meanwhile, Luiz received about 10 minutes of treatment. The bleeding Luiz wore a bandage on his head and played until the first half, before being replaced by Rob Holding.

Then, what about Jimenez? The player from Mexico was immediately rushed to the hospital. During its development, Jimenez’s skull was fractured for later surgery. Currently, Jimenez’s condition is stable after the operation and is waiting for his recovery, which of course will take a long time.

The reason is that head injuries are very vulnerable and can threaten the player’s life. Ryan Mason, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City player, was the victim of this head injury.

In 2017, Mason clashed heads with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. Unfortunately, Mason’s career could not continue because of the injury, so he had to retire early at the age of 26.

Mason was then anxious to see the handling of Jimenez’s injury and especially Luiz, who was still given the opportunity to play. According to Mason, this could jeopardize Luiz’s career.

“I am very sad to see something like this happen again on the football pitch, it is very serious,” Mason told talkSPORT.

“It’s a shame my incident didn’t change anything; what people have to do is start realizing that this is something very, very serious,” he continued.

“Honestly, I am very surprised David Luiz is still allowed to play. I do not criticize the Arsenal team doctor because it is the protocol there and I believe he has followed that.”

“But the existing health protocols are not good enough; it’s not enough to just give 2-3 minutes, it’s not enough.”

“I saw and immediately thought that the two players would not be able to play again. Sometimes you have to forget the protocol and think rationally.

“The rules have to be changed. Obviously five minutes on the pitch is not enough to decide whether a player is concussed or not, we are in a hurry.”

“The current protocol is not good and very dangerous,” concluded Ryan Mason.
