Reinaldo Rueda and his conditions to be a coach of the Colombian National Team: salary, awards and long-term process | Colombia selection

The last days of 2020 will be fundamental to finalize the return of Reinaldo Rueda to the Colombian National Team, whom he directed 14 years ago and with which he has a personal debt: to qualify for a World Cup for seniors. Chile gave him the endorsement for his departure, as he is his current coach; but negotiations with Ramy Abbas, his representative, have so far started.

Although the desire of the Valle del Cauca is to have a second chance in the National Team, it is clear that it will not be at the same price as the first time. Between 2004 and 2006, Rueda directed Colombia, being his first experience in senior teams; He was an employee of the Colombian Soccer Federation, and had just finished third in the U-20 World Cup. Now, he would arrive as a brand new replacement for Carlos Queiroz, after having qualified two teams for the World Cup; with a Copa Libertadores title, with Atlético Nacional; and even with the name of the Flamengo club, from Brazil, on his resume.

For this reason, Rueda Rivera wants to impose certain conditions for his return. The first is that they not only see him as the technician ‘extinguishers fires’, as he was on the road to Germany-2006, in which he managed to score a good number of points, but, paradoxically, he lacked a unit to take to Colombia, even if it is, to the repechage. And since he did not achieve the goal, they took him out without letting him start an Elimination under normal conditions.

This time, as it transpired in Blu Radio’s ‘Sports Blog’, Reinaldo would not accept a contract that ends as soon as the qualifying for Qatar 2022 ends; His wish is to carry out a generational change process, which would end at the end of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, since it will not be a task to promote a new litter that will replace David Ospina, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, Falcao or James Rodríguez.

Another of the conditions of ‘triple R’ would be the seriousness with which he and his coaching staff are treated. Starting with the salary part and the prizes, since he hopes to earn a figure similar to what he is accruing in Chile, which is also close to what Carlos Queiroz had been collecting in the FCF.

And as if that were not enough, he wants to have a large work group, in the style of Queiroz or José Pékerman. Thus, it is speculated that Reinaldo would not only have Bernardo Redín -his current squire- as a technical assistant, he would also want to join Alexis Mendoza, another old acquaintance, as he was his partner in Colombia, Honduras and Ecuador.
