“Reduces injustice, enhances doubles”

Since October 1st, the performance level of the domestic tennis players has been classified in a new way: the rating is now adjusted every week, the range in which the players move is increasing.

The time of the corona pandemic is also bringing big changes to local tennis: a new performance class (LK) system has been in place since October 1: constant updating of your own status, easier advancement, but also more complex formulas. With the LK, tennis players registered in the club have been classified in terms of their performance for around two decades. The best in Germany have so far been able to adorn themselves with the LK1, beginners started with the LK23 – once a year the LK changed after the accounting.

72 percent of the games that were included in the 2018 LK rating fell back to media games with the team, 16 percent to performance class tournaments, and 12 percent to ranked tournaments.

According to its own information, the German Tennis Association is now taking this into account by adjusting the allocation of points for individual successes. Double victories during the Medenrunde will bring players more points in the future, the descent to a lower LK level will be softened, so it will be lower in the case of a compulsory break in the Medenrunde.

The new system is based on several mathematical formulas, and it becomes complex, especially when the age group is included. One thing is clear: in future, the SC will start at 25 instead of 23, the hurdles to ascending to a higher SC increase with performance. The Lollar tennis player with LK 25 only has to collect 50 points for the jump to the next LK (equivalent to a win against an equally strong player), a hungry tennis player with LK13, for example, needs 200 points to jump to LK12. You can view your own LK development on mybigpoint.

The previous top value of 1 can in future only be achieved by the top 100 of the ranking list for women and men in Germany, decimal places are possible. An overview of the most important changes that have been in effect since October 1st:

Weekly update:The LK is becoming much more dynamic: The LK is updated every week, taking into account the team and tournament results achieved.

Extension up to LK 25:This results in a greater differentiation in the lower LK area, so that the many players with LK 23 will be better distributed.

Easier ascent:From now on it is easier for players to improve in the lower LK area. In the LK 25, for example, a single victory is enough to move up one LK level.

LK with decimal places:A more precise distinction is also made within the individual LK levels: The LK is shown with one decimal place. This means that smaller improvements can also be mapped.

Reduction of the maximum descent:The previous descent of max. 2 LK levels per year will be reduced to 1.2. The billing is also carried out continuously: Each player receives a “motivation surcharge” of 0.1 per month on his LK.

Evaluation of the doubles:Double games will also be appropriately recognized in the future: Double and mixed results are included in the calculation with 50 percent value. This will reduce the number of doubles being lowered.

Every win counts:Victories against opponents who are weaker LK also lead to a greater improvement. So every match becomes more important.

(sno). For the LK rating 2.0, we have collected two opposing opinions from two tennis players from the region.

Lisa Hoffmann, team leader of the women of the TC Bad Vilbel IV:I see many advantages in the new LK rating. In theory it sounds good anyway, you couldn’t feel it on your own body yet.

The injustice is reduced, among other things by the fact that the skill level is now to be adjusted weekly. So far, it has often been the case that at the end of the season you played against an LK20 that was actually already LK15 – this is no longer possible with the constant updates. The bill is a bit difficult to understand, but shouldn’t be a problem with the app.

I also think it’s good that the doubles are now rated higher. Sometimes you were a little unmotivated in the Meden round when the games were already decided, sometimes the doubles were unfortunately even given away. So the tension and motivation can now increase.

Overall, the performance class is of course primarily a status symbol. Anyone who is in classes 1 to 10 can definitely play tennis really well. But between the ages of 15 and 20 in particular, many things are at the same level.

Andrea Hermann, team leader of the women 50 of MSG TV Watzenborn / TV Waldgirmes, Hessenliga champion:The changed LK structure sounds complicated. That’s why I didn’t bother with it any further. I didn’t really understand the formulas. Personally, I don’t really care about the whole LK rating.

I want to play tennis, whether against a LK14 or LK22 I don’t care. My own performance class is also not important to me. I think the LA often serves the ego. We love the Medenrunde as a team, I miss my friends. So what I like about the change is that the doubles are upgraded.
