Wayne Rooney’s eldest son, Kai, followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Manchester United. Rooney also felt proud of his son.

Kai, 11 years old, signed his contract to join the MU academy on Thursday (17/12/2020) local time. In the photo Rooney uploaded on his social media, Kai was seen signing a contract with the ‘Rooney 10’ costume beside him.

“Yes, I am a proud father. He works hard, he went to the United States with us so that his football can continue,” said Rooney as reported by Rooney. Sky Sports.

“He then took a trial at Manchester United and he impressed the coach. He signed his contract yesterday, so I’m very happy for him.”

Rooney himself had strengthened for MU in 2004-2017. During 13 years defending MU, Rooney recorded 559 appearances and 253 goals.

With that number of goals, Rooney is listed as MU’s all-time top scorer. He broke Bobby Charlton’s record for goalscoring in January 2017.

Rooney revealed that Kai had a number of options before deciding to join MU. The man who now doubles as a Derby County player and interim manager said that his own son chose the Red Devils.

“He has other options, other clubs to go to, but he decided he wanted to join Manchester United, so it was his decision and not mine,” said Rooney.
