The Judiciary Police (PJ) indicated the name of a journalist to Doyen in the investigation of the Football Leaks case, in order to serve as a point of contact and pass on the version of the investment fund, lawyer Pedro Henriques revealed this Thursday.
The information was exposed in the initial phase of the 29th session of the trial at the Central Criminal Court of Lisbon, with the collaborator of the former executive director (CEO) of the investment fund explaining that this suggestion came during a “stress situation” for the Doyen, in the face of “concern” with the disclosure of confidential documents on the electronic platform created by Rui Pinto.
“A specific journalist was appointed, but I don’t know who he is, I don’t remember. The question raised doubts to the presiding judge, who recalled the hearing on Wednesday, in which an exchange of e-mails was discussed in November 2015 between Pedro Henriques and the PJ inspector Rogério Bravo, in which he treated Nélio’s employee Lucas for ‘you’ and in which he even sent a suggested request to be presented to the Attorney General of the Republic, a position that at the time was held by Joana Marques Vidal.

In the session that is still taking place, the collaborator of Nélio Lucas, who testifies for the third day, also confessed to having an “idea” that he spoke for the “last time” with the PJ about the process in “the end of 2015” and that he only learned of the Rui Pinto’s identity as responsible for Football Leaks “for social communication”.
Court extracts certificate to investigate PJ inspector calls
The court decided on Thursday to extract a certificate from the Football Leaks case to investigate the connection between Judicial Police inspector Rogério Bravo and lawyer Pedro Henriques, a collaborator with Nélio Lucas at the Doyen investment fund.
The decision of the panel of judges, chaired by Margarida Alves, took place at the 29th session of the trial, at the Central Criminal Court of Lisbon, after a request by the defendant Aníbal Pinto, who, following the testimony of Pedro Henriques, considered that “demonstrate strongly indicted the practice of crimes of false testimony, corruption, abuse of power and denial of justice, at least”.
According to the application submitted by lawyer João Pereira dos Santos, it is important to “clarify, in order to defend the credibility of the judicial system, all the facts regarding the collaboration between the PJ and Doyen, what are their contours and objectives and also the influence of these illegal conduct on the validity the evidence obtained and produced “in the process, alleging the existence of” obscure contours and cover-up maneuvers “.
The Public Prosecutor (MP), Marta Viegas, stressed that this matter “is already under investigation in a criminal proceeding, which is currently shelved”. However, he concluded not to oppose the extraction of the certificate “so that the process can be reopened”, which was confirmed by the court.
At issue is an exchange of e-mails in November 2015 between Pedro Henriques and the inspector of PJ Rogério Bravo, in which he treated Nélio Lucas’ collaborator by ‘you’ and in which he even sent a suggestion of request to be presented to the Attorney General of the Republic, a position that at the time was held by Joana Marques Vidal.
Rui Pinto, 32, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of undue access, 14 of violation of correspondence, six of illegitimate access, targeting entities such as Sporting, Doyen, PLMJ law firm, the Portuguese Federation of Football (FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and also for computer sabotage to Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in the attempted form. This last crime concerns Doyen and was also what led to the pronunciation of the lawyer Aníbal Pinto.
The creator of Football Leaks has been free since August 7, “due to his collaboration” with the Judicial Police (PJ) and his “critical sense”, but is, for security reasons, inserted in the protection program of witnesses in an undisclosed location and under police protection.
