Patrick Mahomes righted and the Chiefs came from behind

Miami Gardens, Florida. Patrick Mahomes suffered a 30-yard sack before he managed to steer the Kansas City Chiefs in the right direction.

The Chiefs rallied from a 10-point deficit and four turnovers on Sunday to secure their fifth straight AFC Western title by beating the Miami Dolphins 33-27.

The sack was the longest in the NFL in five years and Mahomes was intercepted three times, his first game with more than one interception in more than two seasons, but he threw for 393 yards and two touchdowns while helping the Chiefs (12 -1) to add his eighth victory in a row.

It was the second straight comeback for the Chiefs at Hard Rock Stadium, where they won the Super Bowl in February despite two interceptions by Mahomes.

“We won the Super Bowl here and secured the AFC West title – it seems like every time we get out of this stadium we accomplish something,” Mahomes said. “The downside is that I seem to have half of my interceptions at this stadium.”

With the loss of Miami, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured a berth to the postseason.

Lions can’t stop Rodgers, Packers secure division

In Detroit, Aaron Rodgers broke the tie with a rushing score in the third quarter and threw three touchdown passes in Green Bay’s 31-24 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the result that the Packers clinched the title of the Northern Division of the National Conference.

The Packers (10-3) knocked Matthew Stafford out of the game with a rib injury in the fourth quarter and went on to score their third straight win and second straight division championship. Green Bay secured the leadership of the division with its triumph in Detroit and Minnesota’s loss to Tampa Bay that occurred in the morning.

The Lions (5-8) scored first and salvaged the tie at the end of the second quarter, but simply couldn’t stop Rodgers.

The two-time MVP completed his first eight passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers ended up connecting 26 of his 33 pass attempts for 290 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for the third straight game. He scored on a six-yard run to put the Packers up 21-14 for the 30th rushing touchdown of his career, breaking the team’s record for a quarterback, which was held by Tobin Rote.
