Patched up Iserbyt will ride in Baal tomorrow: “Want to remain leader in the classification” | X²O Trophy

6 days after his fall in Heusden-Zolder, Eli Iserbyt feels ready to cross again. Tomorrow he will defend his leader’s jersey in the X²O Trophy in Baal.

Eli Iserbyt had a heavy crash last Saturday in the Superprestige cyclocross race of Heusden-Zolder. In a corner the European champion went down, Iserbyt was moaning with pain.

No fractures were found in the hospital. Iserbyt still suffered from a painful elbow, but that has now almost been resolved.

“I just drove in the woods”, Iserbyt responds. “I still have some pain with some movements, but I should be able to do that for an hour.”

Falling on my arm wouldn’t be optimal. But I think I just have to take that risk.

Iserbyt wants to defend his leader’s jersey in the X²O Trophy at all costs. “I’m 2’30” ahead of my first pursuer. That offers perspectives. If I had only half a minute ahead, I might have chosen not to start. “

“I want to remain leader in the rankings, finish the race and have a good feeling towards the Belgian Championship. It is important that I keep race rhythm

to have.”

The European champion will try to limit the risks with tape. “Falling on my arm wouldn’t be optimal. But I think I just have to take that risk.”
