La Jornada – Lino Muñoz gets silver in badminton Masters

Lino Muñoz, the best badminton player in Mexico who plays in the German league, closed the year with a silver medal at the Masters in the Czech Republic, one of the few events on the calendar that were saved despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The Pan-American medalist and five-time national champion returned to Europe three months ago to complete the preparation program in search of the ticket to the Tokyo Olympic Games to be played in 2021.

Muñoz, who was hired this year by the German professional team Tritau, concluded the season with second place in the Czech Republic, the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports reported on his Twitter account.

The 29-year-old badminton player began to write his story by being the first Mexican to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He currently ranks 30th on the ranking of the 36 players who will qualify for the Japanese event.

On the other hand, the runners Úrsula Sánchez, Brenda Flores, Andrea Ramírez and Vianey de la Rosa, compete today in the Projet 2020 marathon in Chandler, Arizona, in search of the Olympic mark in Tokyo of 2: 29.30 hours requested by the World Athletics .

Sánchez is the only marathon runner to come close to the qualifying record, falling within two seconds earlier this year in Houston, with 2: 29.32.

“So far we don’t have any qualified. Let’s hope that from this strong group the athletes who represent Mexico in Tokyo will be able to emerge ”, said the Federation of the discipline on its Internet portal.

In the men’s branch, José Antonio Uribe will start in the fight for the Olympic pass, where so far José Luis Santana, Joel Pacheco and Jesús Esparza have met the mark, at 2: 11.30 hours.
