Quincy Promes is on remand, according to media reports. The Ajax Amsterdam striker is said to have been involved in a knife fight. The incident apparently took place at a family celebration.

Ha Dutch international injured his nephew with a knife? The police in Amsterdam are currently concerned with this question. At least Quincy Promes is in custody, according to consistent media reports.

As reported by the newspaper “De Telegraaf”, the 28-year-old Ajax striker was allegedly involved in a knife fight last July. Promes is suspected of assault, wrote the newspaper.

Apparently, the attack took place at a family celebration that several people gathered in Abcoude, southeast of Amsterdam. The Dutch police are currently investigating what role Promes played in the knife attack in a shed in which his nephew was badly injured in the knee. Nothing is known about the age of the alleged victim.

Promes denies the allegations

On Sunday morning, Promes was arrested by police in Amsterdam. As a judicial spokesman confirmed to the Dutch news agency ANP, the prosecutor has not yet decided whether the footballer will be brought before an examining magistrate. The temporary detention of three days could therefore be extended for another three days on Wednesday.

Promes’ club Ajax Amsterdam has not yet commented on the case. However, the Dutch broadcaster NOS reported that the club had confirmed that Promes did not attend training on Sunday. The day before, Promes had been in the starting line-up when the record champions beat PEC Zwolle 4-0 and scored one goal.

Manon Aalmoes, Promes’ attorney, most recently denied that her client was involved in the knife fight. They wanted to work with the authorities to investigate the incident. So there is currently a statement against a statement. Because the victim’s lawyer, Yehudi Moszkowicz, claims the opposite.

Ill-treatment resulting in serious bodily harm is punishable by up to four years in prison in the Netherlands. Promes has played 40 times for the national team so far, at Ajax he is considered a top performer and one of the top earners.
