Joan Laporta returns to Luz de Gas (Toni Padilla)

“This couple met here 15 years ago and have already done their job,” says Fede Sardà with a laugh when he sees a family with two girls coming to the Luz de Gas room. “I’m coming to collect tickets, I’ve volunteered for Laporta,” explains Marc, the father, as he greets the director of the historic Barcelona hall: “I owe her life, you, thanks to him, I met her,” he adds before to leave with a bundle of tickets. And Sardà, with a laugh, gets a little excited. “Look, beautiful things have happened, eh? These two met on a Christmas night. And look now … we’ve been closed since March. Luckily we can now have a little life with Barça,” he said. background, a song by Pharrell Williams sounds. For a few days, the Luz de Gas room has come back to life, as it has become one of the signature collection points for Joan Laporta’s pre-candidacy. The former president has not been there yet, as his agenda is complicated, but his image has returned to this nightclub, which has joined the list of venues that have opened their doors to some of the pre-candidates. Laporta has more than 300. “We have so many volunteers that it has taken some to train new volunteers, we are happy,” they explain from the pre-candidacy.

After surprising with the advertising banner in Madrid, Laporta’s candidacy has surprised again with Luz de Gas, the room where in 2009 he celebrated a victory against Real Madrid by sprinkling himself with cava. “I thought she was an innocent, but I came to see if it was true that Jan collects signatures here,” says Francesc, a partner since 1982, as he gives his signature. If at the time sectors of Barcelona criticized Laporta for those images, now the reaction of many partners is positive, seeing how, with a touch of humor, Laporta symbolically returns to Luz de Gas. “Luz de Gas is known to everyone, but after that night with Jan, they meet us in Despeñaperros or in Japan,” explains Fede, while he himself is in charge of the music with a sound board. The collection point has been open for two days and from time to time one of the DJs in the room goes there, voluntarily, to play music. “It’s in ERTO, like all the people in the room. If it depended on me, I’d have a bar here to put chupitos to people, but they don’t let us, ”he jokes, as he sees more partners arrive to sign.

“This is Jan’s house. It was already where the Blue Elephant met. begin to sound within Barcelona. “His character conveys enthusiasm. And what we all need is this, someone with enthusiasm, with energy,” adds the director of the room, which is preparing a final party for January 8, when he will a table tennis display where he will bring European champions. “And I will also play. I am champion of Spain for more than 50 years,” he explains with his vitality, while making plans to reopen the room “in September, if all goes well.” For now, Luz de Gas opens its doors in the afternoon to Joan Laporta. And they are not short of work, as the pace of collecting signatures is high. And Laporta volunteers know it. The former president, for now, seems to be ahead of the other pre-candidates.
