Annet Negesa is training again. It’s a Sunday morning in December and the former middle-distance runner is on her ten-kilometer lap. Here in Treptower Park she is one of many athletes. But one thing is different: »I miss the adrenaline rush. The feeling of standing at the start line and delivering top performance on command, «says Negesa at a meeting with SPIEGEL and smiles. When she talks about the past today, she seems happy.
That was not always so. Negesa, 28, was once one of the best athletes in Uganda. In 2011 she was named U20 Africa Champion over 800 meters and 1500 meters and Uganda’s Sportswoman of the Year.
