Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers, Peter Siddle, Cricket News

Adelaide Strikers’ Paceman Peter Siddle rocked the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston in a career best.

The 36-year-old won the fourth best bowling figures in the history of the Big Bash League with 5/16 at the University of Tasmania stadium on Tuesday night.

After removing dangerous batsman D’Arcy Short for two during the power play, Siddle cleaned up the tail as the Hurricanes fell in 19.3 overs for 146 for 146.

The 67-test veteran sprinted toward the cordon after claiming his fifth scalp of the night and roaring with delight.

“This game is all about execution, and we saw it with Peter Siddle on his absolute best night,” said former Australian test captain Ricky Ponting on Channel 7.

“This is an appropriate celebration for someone who just got their first (five-fa).”

This was Siddle’s first five-wicket train in the T20 format. He made his T20 debut for Victoria in January 2006, five years before the BBL’s debut season.

During the clash in Launceston on Tuesday, cricket fans finally got a glimpse into the X-Factor innovation.

This season, BBL teams have the option of exchanging a player from their starting position XI at the 10-over mark of each inning.

Neither club implemented the X-Factor during the first eight games of the tournament, but both the Hurricanes and Strikers have chosen to use a substitute at the University of Tasmania stadium.

After the English spin bowler Danny Briggs hit 15 runs after his opening, he was signed by Strikers for all-rounder Matt Short.

Meanwhile, veteran Hurricanes tweaker Johan Botha has been replaced by young Mac Wright in hopes of stepping up their slap attack.

The decision quickly failed when Wright returned to the pavilion for a leisurely 15.

Short was ineffective during the chase as well, scooping an easy catch to the middle for a golden duck.

The Strikers tracked the total with eight deliveries, securing their first win of the season. The opening batsman Jake Weatherald scored the first hit with 68 points, while skipper Alex Carey contributed 55 points.
