Grosjean stays in the hospital extra night, hopes to return to Abu Dhabi

Romain Grosjean will stay an extra night in the hospital, team boss Guenther Steiner has announced. The Frenchman is aiming for a return to Abu Dhabi for the season finale.

Haas’s team announced on Monday that, given the circumstances, Grosjean is doing well and that he is recovering well. The Frenchman also confirms this on his Instagram. However, he has to miss the Sakhir Grand Prix anyway, as racing with the burns on his hands is not possible. Haas has therefore appointed Pietro Fittipaldi as a replacement for Grosjean. However, the French-Swiss driver is aiming for a return to Abu Dhabi before the season finale, which will also be his last Formula 1 race. Grosjean will no longer compete in the premier class next year.

Team boss Steiner spoke with Motorsport.com about the driver’s condition and says he will stay in the hospital an extra night. He emphasizes that this is not a sign that there are other problems. “He stays in the hospital an extra night, but there is nothing to worry about. They say it is a safer environment, especially because of the burns,” Steiner said. Mentally, Grosjean is in good shape. “He’s mainly trying to get better so that he can race again in Abu Dhabi. I think that shows that he wants to keep going for it.”

The team boss spoke with Grosjean on Monday and then the driver indicated that he would very much like to drive again in Abu Dhabi. Steiner has urged him to get better first and they will talk about it later in the week. “We have plenty of time. Pietro is there, Romain is there, we just need to see how he feels, so I’m in no rush to make decisions. It depends on his health,” the 55-year-old concludes.
