Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul, Comeback, Fight, Date, Announcement, Reaction

Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring announcing a “super show fight” against YouTube sensation Logan Paul due early next year.

The undefeated boxing icon posted a promotional video on his Instagram account on Monday for the February 20th showdown.

Paul also tweeted a link about the event, writing, “It’s official.”

Mayweather, who has a 50-0 record, has retired several times but they don’t call him “money” for nothing as he seems to be pursuing another payday with a simple scalp.

The American fought Andre Berto in 2015 after his super fight against Manny Pacquiao that same year that would draw the curtain on Mayweather’s career.

But he famously fought UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017 and took part in a bizarre clash with Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve 2018, who knocked him down three times on his way to a round one break in his show fight.

Paul has amassed over 20 million YouTube subscribers and became famous for uploading his own comedy sketches and video blogs. He has fought YouTuber KSI twice, the first fight ending in a draw before KSI won the rematch by split decision last November.

“SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL”: WORLD REACTS

Understandably, there was a lot of reaction to the blockbuster announcement.

After seeing the pay-per-view interest in Mike Tyson’s recent fight against Roy Jones Jr., Mayweather will be confident that his boxing show can bring a tremendous windfall.

The American sports caster Skip Bayless said on Twitter: “Now he’s just Easy Money Mayweather.”

Many also claimed that Paul – a man with a professional fight for his name – was unable to consent to a fight against the boxing kingdom, suggesting he will be lucky enough to get out of the ring alive.

Sports journalist Josh Wright called it “really crazy,” and Matt Moreno tweeted, “Ninety-eight percent of boxing is a hell of a good promoter. Paul has no chance against Mayweather. Neither did McGregor. But will that sell like hot cake on PPV? Absolutely.”

Martial arts reporter Andreas Hale wrote, “Floyd Mayweather versus Logan Paul feels like a hate crime.”

Luca Fury added, “Do you remember what Floyd Mayweather did to one of the most talented kickboxers today (Tenshin Nasukawa) in a show boxing match last year? Yes, he’ll do that to Logan Paul, except more brutally. “

Boxing presenter Michelle Joy Phelps tweeted, “Am I mad about it? No no. I get it. It’s all about this money. But I am concerned about safety. Floyd is not kidding and you don’t play boxing. I hope Floyd keeps it bright as my only concern is Logan Paul’s safety. “

US sports caster Joy Taylor said, “I’m just … so confused. Are these messages from Mayweather against Paul real? I mean we had fun last weekend, but let’s not go crazy, do we? I mean, I’ll watch, but that probably shouldn’t be legal, should it? “
