Grand Slam record winner Roger Federer is on the entry list for the Australian Open in early February.

This emerges from a message from the organizers in Melbourne on Thursday. Most recently, however, the Swiss had stated that after two operations on the right knee, participation could be tight. The 39-year-old admitted in mid-December that he was not yet at 100 percent.

In addition to the world number one Novak Djokovic from Serbia and Ashleigh Barty from Australia, the entry list also includes the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, winner of 20 Grand Slam titles, and the Sesto Jannik Sinner. In the women and men, the entire world elite reported. Serena Williams also wants to be there. The 39-year-old American has been chasing the Grand Slam record of Australian Margaret Court since her triumph in Melbourne in 2017, who has won one more than Serena Williams with 24 titles in the four major tournaments.

The start of the Australian Open was last postponed by three weeks to February 8th. This is intended to give all tennis professionals the opportunity to complete their two-week mandatory quarantine before entering Australia. The qualification for the first Grand Slam of the year will take place from January 10th to 13th in Qatar’s capital Doha. Seppi threatens the qualification

Andreas Seppi, on the other hand, has to worry about his direct starting place at the Australian Open. The Kalterer is number 106 in the world in the entry list 3 places outside the direct qualification. If no players cancel in the near future, Seppi will have to qualify in Doha from January 10th to 13th.
