“Eggplant King” van Duijvenbode in the quarter-finals

Dhe “Eggplant King” Dirk van Duijvenbode made the next surprise at the Darts World Cup in London and is in the quarter finals. On Wednesday evening the Dutchman defeated former BDO world champion Glen Durrant from England 4-3. After about an hour and a half, the very last leg had to bring the decision.

During the tournament, van Duijvenbode had already defeated the former world champion Rob Cross (England). The shooting star is called the “eggplant king” because he works full-time at an eggplant farm and promotes it aggressively. In the quarter-finals on New Years he will meet Scotland’s Gary Anderson, who is also a former world champion.

Co-favorite Gerwyn Price from Wales clearly prevailed. The former rugby pro beat England’s Mervyn King 4-1 and faced Northern Irish Daryl Gurney in the round of eight. Price could replace Dutchman Michael van Gerwen as number one in the world if he wins the £ 2.5 million tournament.

The Pole Krzysztof Ratajski will meet Stephen Bunting in the World Cup quarter-finals after his victory over the German darts hope Gabriel Clemens. The Englishman, who was ranked 26th, beat his compatriot Ryan Searle 4-3 on Wednesday in the empty Alexandra Palace in London and fights for the semi-final ticket after the turn of the year against Ratajski. On Tuesday evening, Clemens from Saarland, who eliminated World Champion Peter Wright (Scotland) in the third round, was inferior to the favored Ratajski despite seven match darts.

The game between Bunting and Searle also developed into a drama, which Bunting still won in the decisive set after falling 2-0 in legs.
