Pressurized Scorchers coach Adam Voges was denied a valuable win after the rain forced the Big Bash League’s decisive fight against the stars to abandon Wednesday night.
The Scorchers had buckled 6-158 of 17 overs when the skies opened and imports Colin Ingram, 49 and Joe Clarke, 34, had eaten away at the star’s attack, which included star bowler Adam Zampa.
When the game finally started again, the Stars took 76 of six overs.
The Stars hit 10 on the first hit, but even the most one-eyed Melbourne fan would have thought it was a leap too far for their side when Scorcher’s faster Jhye Richardson put Marcus Stoinis in front with the first delivery of the second for 4 over.
At this point the rain began to patter again, forcing the referees to stop the game immediately.
The game was a missed opportunity for Voges, who is in his final year of contract with the Scorchers since replacing Australian coach Justin Langer.

STARS AWAY WITH A
On Saturday, the stars got away with dormant star Nathan Coulter-Nile, the day after he honored the man of the game for his four-wicket stretch.
It’s not Wednesday.
The stars rested Australian leg spinner Zampa, who has been on the road for nearly 100 days due to COVID, for its third match of the tournament and it came back to bite them.
Without Australia’s slow bowler of choice, the Scorchers made so much hay against the Stars’ twin spinners that Tom O’Connell was eliminated from the game after being strapped off his soles 15 times.
The leg spinner wasn’t the only one making the trip, and Liam Hinchliffe was also dropped off by his loner for 17.
Luckily, part-time Orthodox weirdo on the left arm, Nic Maddinson, helped stem the bleeding and took off his two overs 2-8 before the rain stopped the Scorchers innings.
MARSH MISSED AN OPPORTUNITY
When Cameron Green was supposed to wear the baggy green for the first time on Thursday, his all-rounder Mitch Marsh was the first ball.
The right-handed man creased with no pressure, but Liam Hatcher got a swing and Marsh was trapped on the pad. It was issued despite retries that suggested he missed a leg stump.
After scoring just 17 goals against the Renegades on Sunday, the 29-year-old was keen to help remind the selection that Green isn’t the only all-rounder in Australia.
BIG BILLY FINDES HIS MOJO
He hasn’t played for Australia in more than a year, but a fast beanpole player, Billy Stanlake is back to looking like the bowler who appeared on the international scene in 2017.
Stanlake met kiwi importer Colin Munro in the chest early on during the left-handed innings and took out opening partner Joe Inglis for 7.
The right arm quickly ended with 2-28.
