Shane Warne and Mark Waugh gave a fun glimpse into their testing debuts long before the cap showcasing former players who have become a tradition of modernity.
Warne learned that he was to make a test debut in 1992 while drinking beer at the MCG test match, while Waugh found out about his call from his twin brother Stephen, who was deposed for him.

“Back when we played, you either got told that or you heard an Ashes tour on the radio,” Warne said on the Heavy Roller Podcast from Fox Cricket.
“We (Warne and Waugh) were always Ws, so we always ended up right.
“And the green baggy hat was just always in your kit bag. It was just in your pocket, so you never had the presentation. “
Warne was friends with Mark Waugh’s brother, Dean, and the couple settled on a big night out during the MCG test, which Warne didn’t attend.
“I was with Dean Waugh and he came to Melbourne for cricket and we drank the members,” said Warne.
“We had all had a few beers when I was drinking a lot of beer. We had about three or four cakes and a half dozen beers and we tried carrying them and passed Ian McDonald, the team manager.

“I had to introduce myself to Bruce Reid and Geoff Marsh. I never played against them or met them. “

“I’ve only played a few games. So I didn’t really know the team. I met Allan Border at a Prime Minister’s XI game.
“I met Junior in the locker room, but I didn’t know him. Luckily I had Merv (Hughes) and Deano (Dean Jones) two Victorians on the team, so they took care of me. “
Waugh’s call went a little differently when his brother Stephen came over to see his parents to give him Mark’s good news, but it was based on some bad news for himself.
“My twin brother Stephen,” Waugh said when asked who told him about his selection on the Australian side.
“I went to see mom and dad and Stephen called and said, well done, you’re on the test team.
“So it was really good communication from the Australian cricket board because that’s how I found out I was on the test team.
“Stephen was the one who told me I was on the team and I said great, who got dropped? he said I did. “
“Was it flat? How did it go? ”Mark Howard asked.
“It was a bit flat. He wasn’t overjoyed, ”Waugh replied.
“Did you say a lot to him?” Howard insisted.
“Keep your chin up,” replied Waugh.
“That’s how they always talked to each other anyway,” interjected Warned.
“Hey buddy. Hello. You are right? Yes.”
“But at least there was a waugh on the team. Couldn’t have been, ”Waugh interrupted.
“What were you talking about in the middle eyelash?” Howard asked Waugh.
“Nothing. Not much,” Waugh replied.
“Apart from Stephen, David Boon was the quietest in the middle.
“I’d walk through the middle with Boony and he’d knock off and we’d just look at each other and turn around and go back.”
