Covid-19: the League has “no plans” to interrupt the season – England – Abroad

Manchester City weakened by cases of Covid, matches postponed: English football finds itself again under the threat of the pandemic which is accelerating in the country, but the Premier League does not intend to interrupt the competition, as demanded by some. Wednesday evening, the leaders of the League assured that they had “no plans” to interrupt the season, maintaining their “confidence” in health protocols to allow the smooth running of the meetings. But the question of an interruption has returned as the number of positive Covid-19 tests among clubs in the English elite, the Premier League, has reached its highest level, in seven days, since May .

Eighteen players and members of the management were the subject of a positive PCR test. This figure should be put into perspective, since 1,479 players and staff members were tested between December 21 and 27, but it remains nonetheless worrying: the prevalence in the Premier League is higher than that of the major cities most affected by ‘England. A series of postponements in the coming days can no longer be ruled out, like what happened for the Everton-Manchester City duel, scheduled for Monday and stopped just four hours before kick-off, while several cases of Covid were identified within Pep Guardiola’s team and management.
