Carolina Marín will not attend the Badminton World Cup | sports

Carolina Marín, Olympic champion in Rio 2016, three times world champion and four times in Europe, and her team have reported this Sunday that they have decided not to attend the 2019 Badminton World Cup, which will be played in Basel (Switzerland) from August 19. “The circumstances have not yet arisen for him to compete at the level that is required, both physically and competitively.” The Huelva woman will not be able to defend the world title she won last year in Nanking (China).

“After two weeks training in the CAR of Sierra Nevada, the player and her team have made the decision not to participate in the tournament as the necessary conditions were not met,” reports the press office of the Huelva woman, who was injured last January severely right knee. “Despite the fact that the sensations during the process are being optimal, the circumstances have not yet arisen for me to compete at the level that is required, both physically and competitively,” he adds. The same statement informs that, “although there is no total certainty in this regard, it is estimated that the recovery deadlines will be met for September and it may reappear at the Vietnam Open.”

On July 18, Marín already announced that he did not know if he was going to participate in the World Cup and emphasized that his goal, after the injury from which he is still recovering, is to win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Carolina Marín broke the cruciate ligament in her right knee while contesting the final of the Indonesian Masters on January 26 and has been out of competition since.

Marín was proclaimed Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016. She is also three times world champion (2014, 2015 and 2018) and four times in Europe (2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018). He has also won two Super Series Premier titles: the All England and the Malaysian Open, in 2015.
