Bo Svensson should be – FSV makes old friends a coach

A complete change is taking place at Mainz 05. Rouven Schröder and Jan-Moritz Lichte are gone, Christian Heidel and Martin Schmidt are there. A new coach is still missing, but apparently not for long.

The new executive suite of Mainz 05 apparently wants to make ex-professional Bo Svensson the new coach. The “Allgemeine Zeitung” and the “Bild” newspaper report this in unison. The Swede is currently the head coach of the Austrian second division club FC Liefering.

According to the reports, Mainz and Svensson are already in agreement. Liefering’s managing director Manfred Pamminger confirmed the conversations with the “Bild” newspaper: “Bo has informed us that there is interest from Mainz in him and that he should become a coach there.”

Seven years as a player in Mainz

What is still missing is an agreement between the clubs. “So far there have definitely not been any negotiations between the clubs, nobody from Mainz has approached us yet,” said Pamminger. However, Svensson is said to have a release clause of around 1.5 million euros for Mainz, so sports director Christian Heidel and sports director Martin Schmidt can also take a detour with their dream coach.

Svensson is an old friend in Mainz. From 2007 to 2014, the central defender played for the “zero five”, playing 122 competitive games.

In the event of an agreement, he would not celebrate his debut until next week. On Sunday against the FC Bayern Interim coach Jan Siewert will be on the sidelines.
