Bloom: If it weren’t for Covid-19, maybe everything would have remained as before – Basketball

The Italian A-series basketball team Reggio di Emilia’s “Unahotels” announced on Tuesday that it is terminating its contractual obligations with the experienced Latvian basketball player Jānis Blums.

In a conversation with LETA, the head of the match revealed that the season in Italy was not bad at all, because the team managed to win and the sport form itself was very good. Even before this season, the club announced that the Latvian will play an important role, as he will be entrusted with the training of the youngest basketball players.

Bloom did not hesitate to speculate that Covid-19 may have influenced his fate at the Italian club. The basketball player revealed in a conversation with the club management that he did not want to jump back into the rhythm of the game after the virus broke out, because it would not be wise. This has also been proven by the course of the illness of his teammate African Ibrahim Cham. Namely, the center player will not go on the field this season after the virus has spread.

“Everything was fine until” Covid “. I hadn’t missed any training from August 1 to November, and the club also managed to win. After that, the whole team fell ill with Covid-19. , “Bloom outlines the termination of cooperation with the A – series club. “I was more of a sixth player, he’s a seventh.”

“The team returned to the field and lost two of the three games, so the management decided that something needed to change. They felt that the team needed a different type of player. Soon the management came to me, saying that they were satisfied with my professionalism, but more for 5-10 minutes of games they can’t give me. “

Bloom was at peace with his role in the team, but his athletic form was at a high level, so he also wanted more game time. The basketball player was guaranteed a contract with the “Unahotels” team until the end of the season, but it is not interesting for any basketball player to sit on the bench, so both parties prematurely parted on a friendly note.

“If it weren’t for Covid, maybe everything would have remained as before. I accepted my role, but during my career I gained experience, so my ambitions are bigger, so I wanted to play more,”

explains Bloom, who has felt that he can still be dangerous in the A series, but has been in his homeland for a week and continues to work in training.

“I feel very good. In Italy I had two trainings a day, where I worked a lot individually to regain my form. In Latvia, the team provides the gym and good training conditions, as I continue to work.”

The twists and turns of his career have led Bloom through the championships of Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Greece, Russia, Spain and also Kazakhstan. Blum has also played in the leading clubs “VEF Riga” and “Ventspils” in Latvia, but in the future he would not hesitate to try a more exotic country, such as Dubai or Qatar.

Kaspars Bērziņš, three years younger than Blūma, has previously expressed similar intentions, and once called Japan in the context of his career.

The basketball player did not rule out the possibility of returning to Italy, but now in the second league. In this regard, Blūms is not in a hurry yet, as the nearest goals are related to the Latvian national team matches in the European Championship qualification tournament, which is expected in Riga in February next year.
