Biathlete Preuss fourth at the Norwegian Festival

VFranziska Preuß crossed the finish line oily and almost prevented the Norwegian Festival at the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen. “I’m happy about fourth place. Such a placement is hard to come by. But it also annoys me a little because I’m 0.5 seconds past the podium. But that’s the life of an athlete, ”said the 26-year-old on Friday. In the sprint competition, the Bavarian was once again the best German. “It’s a nice, new feeling when you know you’re there and can attack,” said Preuss.

At the moment, the Norwegians are setting the tone in biathlon. “Trippel norsk” cheered the Norwegian newspaper “VG” after their national team’s new podium coup in Tyrol. One day after the fourfold success of the men in the sprint, the women managed a similar feat on Friday in the Pillerseetal. “It’s incredible to have three Norwegians on the podium. I’ve never seen that before, ”said the proud winner Tiril Eckhoff.

Despite a penalty, she won over 7.5 kilometers ahead of Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold and World Cup leader Marte Olsbu Röiseland. “I think our wax is very, very good this week. We have fast skis, we have a fantastic team, ”said 30-year-old Eckhoff. Sturla Holm Laegreid had won over ten kilometers in the men’s race the day before Johannes Dale and Johannes Thingnes Bö. Vetle Sjastad Christiansen finished fourth as the fourth Norwegian.

“We got pretty pissed off by the Norwegians,” said former world champion Erik Lesser after the women’s race on ARD. After the weakest sprint result in almost seven years, Germany’s men do not have a good starting position in the pursuit race on Saturday (1 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport). As the best German, Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer starts the race 1:31 minutes behind from position 22, Lesser is even 2:09 minutes behind.

The women (3 p.m.) are looking better thanks to Preuss and Janina Hettich. The Black Forest woman was the only one of the six German ski hunters to have made no mistakes at the shooting range. The 24-year-old achieved the World Cup norm with 13th place and her second top 15 place. “That was the goal. But I didn’t think I could do it before Christmas, ”she said.

Denise Herrmann, on the other hand, had to go into the penalty loop three times, the 31-year-old was 23rd, 1:22 minutes behind Eckhoff. Vanessa Hinz (1 mistake) made it into the hunting race as 26th this time. Maren Hammerschmidt (1 mistake / 28th place) is just like Anna Weidel (1/43) in the pursuit race.
