Big Bash League season 10 kicks off Thursday night and it will be cricket like you’ve never seen it before. Three new laws were introduced for competition.
Namely, those changes are “Power Surge”, “The Bash Boost” and “The X-Factor”.
That’s how they each work.
The ONLY place to watch every game of the 2020/21 KFC BBL season live and without commercial breaks during the game is Fox Cricket, which is available on Kayo. New to Kayo? Get your free trial now and start streaming right away>
OVERLOAD
The traditional power game has been revised. Normally, each batting team would begin their innings with a six-over power play that allowed only two outfielders outside the inner ring.
Now this power play will only give the last four overs, whereby the batting team can call up two “power surge” overs after the 10th over.

THE BASH BOOST
One ‘Bash Boost’ point is awarded with every game.
It will be claimed by any team that has the higher score at the 10 over mark in their innings. If the scores are tied at the 10-over mark, the sides are awarded 0.5 points each.
The point will also be split if the second inning is delayed or interrupted and if the match is abandoned.
If a match is shortened before a ball is thrown, the middle of the innings will be recalculated, so in a 14-on-a-side match, the bash boost would decide seven overs in the chase.
If a match is affected by rain in the first innings, the second innings Bash Boost target will be recalibrated using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
THE X FACTOR
Instead of naming XIs while throwing, each side names XIIIs. One of the 12th or 13th men may enter the match at the 10-over mark in the first innings.
They can only replace a player who has not yet been beaten and who has not played more than one over.
